When it comes to motorcycle camping, the balance between weight, pack size, and comfort is a never-ending debate. In a recent trip to the stunning landscapes of North County Dublin, Dan from Ride Roam Review put his new gear to the test: the Nortent Vern 1 PC.

Is it overkill for a solo rider, or is it the "fortress against the elements" that every moto-camper needs? Let’s dive into the details.

First Impressions: Heavy Duty, High Quality

The first thing you’ll notice about the Vern 1 PC is the material. Unlike your standard nylon tents, this is made of Poly Cotton (PC) [00:35]. This material is breathable, durable, and features a unique "self-healing" waterproof property—when it gets wet, the fibers expand to create an even tighter barrier against the rain [09:17].

The Stats:

  • Weight: 3.5kg (A bit "beefy" for some, but manageable on a bike) [00:44].

  • Design: Single-skin, four-season tent [00:40].

  • Color: Oak Brown (designed to blend into natural surroundings) [10:11].

  • Price: Approximately €354.95 (plus €30 for the optional ground sheet) [09:29].

The Setup: Quick and Intuitive

Despite its "beast" status, the Vern 1 PC is surprisingly easy to pitch. The 2026 version features updated 9mm color-coded aluminum poles that clip directly to the exterior, eliminating the need for a full-length pole sleeve [03:39].

One of the standout features is that it is freestanding. If you realize you’ve pitched on a slant or a rocky patch, you can simply pick the whole structure up and move it to a better spot [10:38].

Living Large: The Interior

For a "one-person" tent, the Vern 1 feels more like a "one-and-a-half."

  • Dual Vestibules: You have two separate entrances, each with its own 60cm vestibule [08:00]. This is a game-changer for moto-campers who need space to store muddy boots, a helmet, and bulky riding gear without cluttering the sleeping area [07:45].

  • Versatile Doors: You can choose between a solid fabric wall for cold nights or a mesh wall for summer ventilation to keep the bugs out [07:08].

  • Ventilation: With adjustable vents at the bottom on both sides, the tent maintains a constant stream of fresh air, reducing condensation—a common issue in single-wall tents [08:33].

Is The NORTENT VERN 1 PC Worth the Weight?

At 3.5kg, it’s certainly not the lightest option on the market. However, as Dan points out, "every gram is worth it" when you consider the level of protection and comfort it offers [11:36]. If you are looking for a long-term investment that can handle anything from a breezy summer night to a harsh Norwegian winter, this might be the last tent you ever need to buy.

Pros:

  • Incredibly stable in high winds [10:25].

  • Spacious dual-vestibule design.

  • High-quality, breathable poly cotton material.

  • Easy, freestanding setup.

Cons:

  • Heavier than standard nylon tents.

  • Premium price point.

Final Thoughts

The Nortent Vern 1 PC is a "fortress" built for those who prioritize durability and comfort over ultra-lightweight specs. Whether you're on a mountain trek or a cross-country motorcycle tour, it provides a sense of security that cheaper tents simply can't match.
